People who buy auto insurance for the first time are often shocked at the cost of full coverage auto insurance as opposed to partial coverage or plain liability insurance. However, not everyone driving needs full coverage insurance, which typically includes liability, collision repair, and coverage for theft and vandalism. Full coverage may also include towing and/or a rental car in case the insured person?s car is not drivable after an accident.
Anyone who has financed his or her auto will probably be required to keep full coverage auto insurance until the car loan is paid off. Finance companies know that few people will continue to make payments on a car that has been totaled in an accident and the owner cannot afford to repair. Anyone with a newer car should get full coverage if he or she can afford to do so. Newer cars can be expensive to repair; one little fender bender could end up costing a person hundreds of dollars.
Owners of cars that are older and not worth much money do not need full coverage auto insurance if the insurance would cost them more than the value of the car. Anyone who unsure what type of insurance would best suit his or her needs should talk to an insurance agent or insurance company representative to discuss his or her options.
