How To Combine The Powers Of Social Media & Product Creation ...

building your own business is one of those things where the total influence it has mainly rests on other factors.

Would you like to make a product in a specific niche? We are going to help you do this with this article. People that are willing to put forth the effort will be able to profit by creating these types of products. Understand that these opportunities need to be acted upon. As an affiliate, you will get access to millions of different products that you can sell. With so many niches to choose from (including sub niches and micro-niches) it will not be hard to find a product to sell. The following ideas are just for one class or category of people ? professional workers.

One of the great uses of social media for web marketers is lead generation. What you do for a company or simply marketing your already existing business helps to make use of that fact. What you will do is make some email lists in the niches of your choice. It will take some time to build them but you should have something of substance within a couple of months. Then you can start hosting webinars as an expert knowledge series and invite the people on your list. So now you have webinar audios that you can use in a variety of ways. They?re great for list building as well as bonuses for your affiliate products. Then there is product creation which can make very good use of the audios, too. For this idea you should be comfortable talking to people and experts in your field. Obviously the idea isn?t new but you will be able to take the approach of creating a specialty in expert webinars. You can choose between working with local experts or people who operate outside of your immediate vicinity. To create a product of your own there is more than enough material in a couple of expert webinars. Or, as was mentioned earlier, you can use that content in a number of ways in your marketing. You might think that this is too much work but the truth is that it honestly isn?t.

I hope what you will have been reading in the article in relation to business marketing, and likewise also the info?? about online business, is helpful to you. Now please continue on?? some more so you can get supplemental details to do with this topic.

We have talked about focusing on newbies in the niches of your choice, so now we will will talk about marketing to them. There are many ways to attack this, but for now we just want to mention hosting newbie webinars. This particular method is very profitable for many online marketers to target newbies all the time. You need a webinar, and of course, newbies to attend it. Newbies are very susceptible to simple marketing tactics. Just provide them with great information that they need to have. Be sure that the information is correct and usable, otherwise, if you don?t deliver on your promises, this could backfire on you.

In the end, those that do well with online marketing have an open mind, are willing to face challenges, and also go after their dreams no matter how bold they may be. It?s all pretty simple ? just create a product, and promote it on social media websites. It?s not that hard! It really doesn?t matter if you fail at first, even 10 times in a row. As long as you keep trying, and learn from your mistakes, you will win in the end.

DIY Machinable Wax for Your Lathe or Mill

DIY Machinable Wax for Your Lathe or MillIf you have a CNC machine, lathe, or mill and like to use plastic blocks for prototyping the material cost can add up quickly if you're prolific or make a lot of mistakes. Consider using machinable wax?a very hard wax that is reusable and won't gum up the cutting surfaces of the equipment like pure paraffin or beeswax.

Instructables user rawkstar320 figured out that if you melt paraffin wax from any hobby store in a deep fryer and one-at-a-time add in several plastic shopping bags (use recycling symbol #2 or #4 only). Continue adding bags until they won't dissolve anymore and pour the wax into a mold (perhaps a loaf pan) to cool. Keep in mind that paraffin will melt at 300 degrees Fahrenheit but if you get it to 400 it will ignite so keep an eye on your temperature with a candy thermometer.

The resulting wax will be very hard, works well in metal machining equipment, and the shavings can be remelted into your next block.

Millinocket firefighters save several pets from fire - Bangor Daily News

MILLINOCKET, Maine ? Firefighters battled thick smoke to rescue two cats and a dog from a fire that damaged the cellar and living room of an Aroostook Avenue house Sunday morning.

Firefighters had to stop homeowner Thomas Jameson from going back into his house at 423 Aroostook Ave. to retrieve his pets after he had rescued a dog and a cat, Fire Chief Andrew Turcotte said.

With flames burning into the cellar ceiling and first-floor living room and smoke thick throughout the rest of the house, Turcotte went inside and found a dog and a cat and Firefighter-EMT Sam Monteith rescued a cat, Turcotte said.

?It was the funniest thing,? Turcotte said. ?The cat I found was just lying there, unresponsive, and I thought it was dead. I shook it a little bit and it came right alive. It hissed and clawed at me. I was thinking, ?Oh my goodness.??

Firefighters have pet-sized breathing masks to help resuscitate pets, but didn?t need to use them on the animals. Jameson, however, was treated for smoke inhalation at Millinocket Regional Hospital after refusing treatment at the scene, Assistant Fire Chief Thomas Malcolm said.

The fire apparently started in an ash box in the basement directly beneath Jameson?s living room fireplace. The ash box is large, approximately 16 inches across and about two feet deep, and embedded in cement, but was piled high with ash because it hadn?t been cleaned in a while, Turcotte said.

?It appears there was quite a bit of hot ash in there,? he said.

Ash that fell to the box from a fireplace fire the family started the night before apparently ignited thick building timbers hanging over the ash box. Turcotte said the timbers might also have ignited because they were badly dried out after decades of exposure to ash box heat.

Turcotte smelled smoke at about 8:55 a.m. and either he or a neighbor called 911. When firefighters arrived about five minutes later, heavy black smoke was pouring from the front door, Turcotte said.

Thick basement smoke and intense heat made finding the seat of the fire difficult, but firefighters doused the flames before they could spread very far into the living room area, Turcotte said.

East Millinocket firefighters were called immediately to the scene because Millinocket is down one engine, and they assisted in fighting the flames, Turcotte said. The flames might have eaten into the first floor and become uncontrollable had the fire burned much longer.

?They did a really good quick stop,? Malcolm said. The fire ?could have gone right up the chimney chase but it didn?t. They saved a lot with the initial knockdown.?

The Jameson family won?t be able to occupy the house until repairs are made. Damage estimates run from $30,000 to $40,000.

The fire is Millinocket?s second in about a month. A malfunctioning space heater sparked a fire that destroyed most of a second-floor apartment on Katahdin Avenue on Nov. 28.

Sunday?s fire, Turcotte said, underlined the importance of keeping fireplaces clear of ash buildup. He encouraged homeowners to have their chimneys and fire boxes cleaned professionally or at least emptied.

Storms on US Plains stir memories of the 'Dust Bowl'

Staff / Reuters

A sprinkler is used near Dodge City, Kansas, in this Nov. 26 photo. Residents of the Great Plains over the last year or so have experienced storms reminiscent of the 1930s Dust Bowl. Experts say the new storms have been brought on by a combination of historic drought, a dwindling Ogallala Aquifer underground water supply, climate change and government farm programs.

By Reuters

LIBERAL, Kan. - Real estate agent Mark Faulkner recalls a day in early November when he was putting up a sign near Ulysses, Kansas, in 60-miles-per-hour winds that blew up blinding dust clouds.?

"There were places you could not see, it was blowing so hard," Faulkner said.?

Residents of the Great Plains over the last year or so have experienced storms reminiscent of the 1930s Dust Bowl. Experts say the new storms have been brought on by a combination of historic drought, a dwindling Ogallala Aquifer underground water supply, climate change and government farm programs.?

Nearly 62 percent of the United States was gripped by drought, as of Dec. 25, and "exceptional" drought enveloped parts of Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.?

There is no relief in sight for the Great Plains at least through the winter, according to Drought Monitor forecasts, which could portend more dust clouds.?

A wave of dust storms during the 1930s crippled agriculture over a vast area of the Great Plains and led to an exodus of people, many to California, dramatized in John Steinbeck's novel "The Grapes of Wrath."?

Drought worsens in High Plains; winter outlook grim

While few people believe it could get that bad again, the new storms have some experts worried that similar conditions -- if not the catastrophic environmental disaster of the 1930s -- are returning to parts of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas and Colorado.?

"I hope we don't talk ourselves into complacency with easy assumptions that a Dust Bowl could never happen again," said Craig Cox, agriculture director for the Environmental Working Group, a national conservation group that supports converting more tilled soil to grassland. "Instead, we should do what it takes to make sure it doesn't happen again."?

Handout / Reuters

Webcam views show South Loop 289 before and during a dust storm in Lubbock, Texas, in these National Weather Service handout images dated December 19.

Satellite images on Dec. 19 showed a dust storm stretching over an area of 150 miles from extreme southwestern Oklahoma across the Panhandle of Texas around Lubbock to extreme eastern New Mexico, said Jody James, National Weather Service meteorologist in Lubbock. Visibility was reduced to half a mile in places, stoked by high winds, he said. At least one person was killed and more than a dozen injured in car crashes.?

"I definitely think these dust storms will become more common until we get more measurable precipitation," James said.?

'Dirty 30s'?
The Great Plains is a flat, semi-arid, area with few trees, where vast herds of buffalo once thrived on native grasses. Settlers plowed up most of the grassland in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to create the wheat-growing breadbasket of the United States, encouraged by high commodity prices and free "homestead" land from the government.?

The era known as the "Dirty 30s" -- chronicled by Ken Burns in a Public Broadcasting Service documentary that aired in November -- as when a 1930s drought gripped the Great Plains and winds carried away exposed soil in massive dust clouds.?

More stories in Environment

Bill Fitzgerald, 87, a farmer near Sublette, Kansas, remembers "Black Sunday" on April 14, 1935, when a clear, sunny day in southwest Kansas turned black as night by mid afternoon because of a massive cloud of dust that swept from Nebraska to the Texas panhandle.?

"My older brother and I were in my dad's 1927 or '28 Chevy truck a mile north and a mile west of the house and we saw it rolling in," Fitzgerald said. "It was about 10 p.m. when it cleared enough for us to go home."?

Farming practices have vastly improved since the 1930s. Farmers now leave plant remnants on the top of the soil and less soil is exposed, to preserve moisture and prevent erosion.?

The governor of Missouri has enacted an emergency measure to drill new wells in areas where water is scarce, providing much-needed relief for the state's farmers and ranchers. NBC's Thanh Truong reports.

Irrigation beginning in the 1940s from the Ogallala aquifer, a huge network of water under the Great Plains, also made land less vulnerable to dust storms.?

Drying?
But the Ogallala aquifer is drying up after years of drawing out more water than was replenished.?

Many farmers have had to drill deeper wells to find water. Others are giving up on irrigation altogether, which means they can no longer grow crops of high-yielding and lucrative corn. They will instead grow wheat, cotton or grain sorghum on dry land, which depends completely on natural precipitation in an area that typically gets 20 inches of rain a year or less.?

Near Sublette, Kansas, farmer Gail Wright said he would probably give up irrigating two square miles of his land and would plant wheat and grain sorghum instead of corn because of the diminishing aquifer. Drilling deeper wells would cost $120,000 each, Wright said.?

/

Drought conditions plague much of the United States after a summer of scorching temperatures and a lack of rain. The dryness is affecting America's farmland, threatening crops like soybean and corn.

"When we drilled those wells in the 1960s and 70s, we were doing 1,500 or 1,600 gallons per minute," said Wright. "Now, they are down to anywhere from 400 to 600 gallons per minute. We probably pumped out 200 feet of water."?

Another farmer in Sublette, 79-year-old Lawrence Withers, whose family farms land his grandfather settled in 1887, is resigned to a future without irrigation.?

"We have pumped 170 feet off the aquifer, that's gone. There's just a little tick of water at the bottom," he said.?

The Ogallala supplies water to 176,000 square miles of land in parts of eight states from the Texas panhandle to southern South Dakota. That amounts to about 27 percent of all irrigated land in the nation, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.?

60 percent of lower 48 states now in drought

The volume of water in the aquifer stood at about 2.9 billion acre feet in 2009, a decline of about 9 percent since 1950, according to the Geological Survey. About two-and-a-half times as much water was drawn out in the 14 years ended 2009 as during the prior 15-year period, data shows.?

The water may run out in 25 years or less in parts of Texas, Oklahoma and southwest Kansas, although in other areas it has 50 to 200 years left, according to the Geological Survey.?

Rationing has been imposed on irrigation in the region but it may be too little too late.?

"It's a situation where across the Plains the demand far exceeds the annual recharge," said Mark Rude, executive director of the Southwest Kansas Groundwater Management District.?

Record drought?
The worst drought in decades has exacerbated the situation. The semi-arid area around Lubbock, which typically gets about 19 inches of rain a year, received less than 6 inches in 2011, the lowest ever recorded. This year was better but still far below normal at 12.5 inches, meteorologist James said.?

Climate change is also having an impact on the region, said atmospheric scientist Katharine Hayhoe, co-director of the Climate Science Center at Texas Tech University in Lubbock.?

Grain prices soar as drought impact deepens

"It is definitely hotter in the summer and drier in the summer because of climate change," she said.?

The average annual temperature in Lubbock has increased by one full degree over the last decade, according to National Weather Service data, and the average amount of rainfall has fallen during summer months by about .50 inch over the decade.?

Some say government policies are making things worse.?

Federal government subsidized crop insurance pays farmers whether they produce a crop or not, encouraging farmers to plant even in a drought year.?

Another subsidized U.S. government program that pays farmers to take sensitive marginal land out of crop production and put it into grassland is gradually shrinking.?

A look at the latest market moves from the trading floor, including the trade on corn prices, with Phillip Streible, RJO Futures.

In a possible case of history repeating itself, high commodity prices are encouraging farmers to break up the land and plant crops when the 10-year conservation contracts with the government expire, said environmentalist Cox. This is similar to what happened in the 1920s when vast areas of grassland were plowed up.?

The government also has imposed restrictions on how much land can go into conservation reserves to save money at a time of massive U.S. budget deficits, he said.?

The amount of land in conservation reserves has declined by more than 2.3 million acres over the last five years in five states of the Great Plains -- Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico, according to U.S. Agriculture Department data.?

If most of that land is plowed up for crops it could lead to more dust storms in the future.?

"I think you are probably going to see increased erosion if that happens," said Richard Zartman, Chairman of the Plant and Soil Science Department at Texas Tech, adding that it was unlikely to get as bad as the Dust Bowl days.?

Cheaper Tomatoes, Strawberries Pose Challenge for Florida

Published: Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 12:01 a.m.
Last Modified: Sunday, December 30, 2012 at 3:55 a.m.

In Florida, however, the opponent is not China and other low-wage Asian nations but the rising tide of cheaper tomato and strawberry imports from Mexico, which have undercut U.S. retail and farm prices.

"They (Mexican growers) produce for the U.S. markets," said John VanSickle, an agricultural economist at the University of Florida in Gainesville who specializes in international trade issues, including tomatoes and strawberries. "The premium product goes to the U.S., and the rest stays in Mexico. If they don't have a U.S. market, they don't have a business."

Mexican strawberry imports showed the steepest rise in the last five years, jumping 142 percent from 2008 to 2011, according to the most recent statistics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In the first three quarters of this year, they soared 50 percent compared to the same period in 2011.

Mexican imports will likely rise less steeply in the fourth quarter because farmers in both countries faced many of the same unfavorable growing conditions, said Ted Campbell, executive director of the Florida Strawberry Growers Association in Dover, the industry's trade group.

But that doesn't mean the Mexican market threat has subsided, he said.

"They're not going away. They're going to continue to grow," Campbell said. "You can't ignore what's going on."

Mexican tomato imports have risen significantly but less sharply in the past five years, up 43.7 percent from 2008 through 2011 and another 5.6 percent in the first three 2012 quarters compared with 2011, USDA figures show.

Those numbers reflect Mexican imports of round tomatoes grown in open fields and in "hothouses," or covered areas such as a greenhouse. Those varieties most directly compete with Florida round tomatoes, the dominant variety grown here.

Mexican hothouse tomatoes, which account for about 75 percent of total imports, pose the bigger threat, the federal data shows. They've risen 74 percent from 2008 through 2011.

"In the last five to six years, Mexico has converted from a field culture to a hothouse culture," VanSickle said.

That trend will continue, he added. Among the factors fueling the transition are better prices and lower production costs, including pesticides, which appeals to U.S. consumers concerned about chemical residues on produce.

The smaller percentage growth in imports simply reflects the fact that Mexican tomatoes have been competing in the U.S. market for decades longer.

ALLEGATIONS OF DUMPING

Even at the time of the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Mexican tomatoes had a roughly 40 percent share of the U.S. market, said Reggie Brown, chief executive of the Maitland-based Florida Tomato Exchange, the industry trade group.

Now, its share has grown to about 50 percent currently, and continues to climb.

Florida currently has a 40 percent annual share of the U.S. market for fresh, field-grown, round tomatoes, he said, and it supplies virtually all of the domestic market in that category between December and May.

Mexican competition has sent Florida's tomato acreage down by more than 26 percent in the past decade, from 43,500 acres in the 2001-02 season to 32,000 in 2010-11, according to USDA. Brown estimated the current total at about 30,000 acres.

"It's almost entirely due to Mexican imports," said Tony DiMare, vice president of DiMare Fresh Inc., a national produce company and one of the top three U.S. tomato growers and shippers. DiMare works at the company's Apollo Beach packinghouse.

Florida tomato growers and their counterparts in other states accuse their Mexican counterparts of illegally dumping tomatoes in the U.S., or selling them at prices below the cost of production. The strategy attempts to eliminate competitors to eventually gain control of an entire market.

U.S. growers made the same charge in 1996, two years after NAFTA's enactment.

The U.S. Commerce Department, fearful the complaint would destroy the trade pact, negotiated an agreement with Mexican producer known in the industry as the "suspension agreement" because it suspended action on the dumping complaint, DiMare said.

The suspension agreement was supposed to eliminate surges of imported Mexican tomatoes to maintain stable market prices, he said.

"In my opinion, the Commerce Department failed miserably," in enforcing the agreement, said DiMare, citing the recent Mexican import growth.

U.S. growers have asked the Commerce Department to drop both the suspension agreement, scheduled to expire in January, and the 1996 dumping action. A decision on both is expected by February, Brown said.

Rulings in favor of U.S. tomato growers would allow them to proceed with a new dumping complaint, widely expected to happen.

BATTLING STRAWBERRIES

Mexican imports had their biggest effect on the U.S. tomato and strawberry markets during the 2011-12 season, when a flood of both commodities sent prices plummeting, Campbell and DiMare said.

Farmers in Florida and Mexico lost money last season because of depressed prices, they said.

"We had such depressed prices last year, we couldn't recover our picking, packing and transportation costs," DiMare said. "They (Mexican growers) inundated their own market. They absolutely destroyed the U.S. market."

Wholesale strawberry prices a year ago fell to $7 per flat, or the break-even point, by Christmas, Campbell and growers reported earlier. They recovered briefly in January but sank again the following month.

Because of lower volumes, wholesale strawberry prices returned to a normal levels this season, USDA figures show. Prices averaged about $26 per flat in early December, when Florida is the exclusive domestic strawberry producer, and were about $17.50 on Thursday.

Florida strawberry growers generally harvest until March, when California production ramps up, sending wholesale price below the break-even point.

The significance of the Mexican competition is that its growers compete in the same market windows traditionally dominated by Florida tomato and strawberry growers. Leaders in both commodities view Mexico as a continuing threat.

"If we have seasons like we had last year, where import volumes kept prices so low and made it impossible to sell at a profit, this industry can't maintain those types of losses," Brown said.

NEW GROWING METHODS

The state's tomato and strawberry growers can compete with Mexico, VanSickle said, but both will have to transition to newer technologies.

In both cases, that would include following their Mexican competitors by turning to "covered agriculture," he said. That would include growing in traditional greenhouses or other closed environments, such as large plastic tunnels put up over an entire crop row.

VanSickle, who consults for Florida tomato growers, has delivered that message to industry leaders without much effect, he said.

DiMare and Brown agreed the Florida climate makes covered agricultural production unworkable and the costs "prohibitive," particularly in the current profit environment.

The price to build a one-acre greenhouse, including temperature controls, would run about $1 million, Brown said.

An acre of plastic tunnels over strawberries would cost $30,000, Campbell said, and all could be blown away with a single hurricane or tropical storm.

VanSickle acknowledged a transition would come with big up-front costs, but he maintained growers, particularly tomato growers, could recover by supplying a better product that would fetch a higher market price.

"In this era, consumers are willing to pay more for a better-tasting tomato," VanSickle said.

"If they want to compete, they've got to change the way they're doing business."

Chavez suffers new complications in cancer fight

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) ? Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is confronting "new complications" due to a respiratory infection nearly three weeks after undergoing cancer surgery, his vice president said in Cuba as he visited the ailing leader for the first time since his operation.

Vice President Nicolas Maduro looked weary and spoke with a solemn expression in a televised address from Havana on Sunday. He described Chavez's condition as delicate.

"Several minutes ago we were with President Chavez. We greeted each other and he himself referred to these complications," Maduro said, reading from a prepared statement.

The vice president's comments suggest an increasingly difficult fight for Chavez. The Venezuelan leader has not been seen or heard from since undergoing his fourth cancer-related surgery Dec. 11, and government officials have said he might not return in time for his scheduled Jan. 10 inauguration for a new six-year term.

"The president gave us precise instructions so that, after finishing the visit, we would tell the (Venezuelan) people about his current health condition," Maduro said. "President Chavez's state of health continues to be delicate, with complications that are being attended to, in a process not without risks."

Maduro was seated alongside Chavez's eldest daughter, Rosa, and son-in-law Jorge Arreaza, as well as Attorney General Cilia Flores. He held up a copy of a newspaper confirming that his message was recorded on Sunday.

"Thanks to his physical and spiritual strength, Comandante Chavez is facing this difficult situation," Maduro said.

Maduro said he had met various times with Chavez's medical team and relatives. He said he would remain in Havana "for the coming hours" but didn't specify how long.

Maduro, who arrived in Havana on Saturday for a sudden and unexpected trip, is the highest-ranking Venezuelan official to see Chavez since the surgery in Cuba, where the president's mentor Fidel Castro has reportedly made regular visits to check on him.

Before flying to Cuba, Maduro said that Energy Minister Hector Navarro would be in charge of government affairs in the meantime.

"The situation does not look good. The fact that Maduro himself would go to Cuba, leaving Hector Navarro in charge only seems understandable if Chavez's health is precarious," said David Smilde, a University of Georgia sociologist and analyst for the Washington Office on Latin America think tank.

Smilde said that Maduro probably made the trip "to be able to talk to Chavez himself and perhaps to talk to the Castros and other Cuban advisers about how to navigate the possibility of Chavez not being able to be sworn in on Jan. 10."

"Mentioning twice in his nationally televised speech that Chavez has suffered new complications only reinforces the appearance that the situation is serious," Smilde said.

Before his operation, Chavez acknowledged he faced risks and designated Maduro as his successor, telling supporters they should vote for the vice president if a new presidential election were necessary.

Chavez said at the time that his cancer had come back despite previous surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation treatment. He has been fighting an undisclosed type of pelvic cancer since June 2011.

Medical experts say that it's common for patients who have undergone major surgeries to suffer respiratory infections and that how a patient fares can vary widely from a quick recovery in a couple of days to a fight for life on a respirator.

Maduro's latest update differed markedly from last Monday, when he had said he received a phone call from the president and that Chavez was up and walking.

The vice president spoke on Sunday below a picture of 19th century independence hero Simon Bolivar, the inspiration of Chavez's leftist Bolivarian Revolution movement.

Maduro said that Chavez had sent year-end greetings to his homeland and a "warm hug to the boys and girls of Venezuela."

The vice president expressed faith that Chavez's "immense will to live and the care of the best medical specialists will help our president successfully fight this new battle." He concluded his message saying: "Long live Chavez."

Chavez has been in office since 1999 and was re-elected in October, three months after he had announced that his latest tests showed he was cancer-free.

Opposition politicians have criticized a lack of detailed information about Chavez's condition, and last week repeated their demands for a full medical report.

Information Minister Ernesto Villegas defended the government's handling of the situation, saying during a televised panel discussion on Sunday night that Chavez "has told the truth in his worst moments" throughout his presidency.

He also referred to a new surge of rumors about Chavez's condition and called for respect for the president and his family.

Villegas said a government-organized New Year's Eve concert in a downtown Caracas plaza had been canceled, and he urged Venezuelans to pray for Chavez.

Chavez's daughter Maria, who has been with the president since his surgery, said in a message on her Twitter account: "Thank you people of Venezuela. Thank you people of the world. You and your love have always been our greatest strength! God is with us! We love you!"

Allies of the president also responded on Twitter, repeating the phrase: "Chavez lives and will triumph."

I am contemplating on the human classmate...not sure yet! I will get back to you on that :D

I'd like to reserve the Human classmate. I'll have a profile up by the end of the weekend, hopefully sooner!

HEADS UP TO ANYONE DOING A NON-HUMAN MERMAID HUNTER OR MERMAID CHARACTER: I would like two different descriptions for appearances and two different images(One of the human form, one of the non-human form). For Mermaids, the human form would look the same as mermaid, without the tail and fin ears. The mermaid hunter is really up to the creator. Sorry that's not in the application. >_< I'll add it here in a minute.

I'm afraid it might take me a little over 24 hours to get her finished and in, but I shouldn't take more than possibly two days. If you're reserving the eldest princess, Hazezon, then you and I will need to figure out what age we'll have them. I put down seventeen but was thinking eighteen, whichever you want I suppose.

Depending on whether or not we are allowed to reserve them, that is.

Also, if that is the case, is it possible I could have my character be one of the merpeople who can walk on land easier than most? It would be easier for her as a guard.

Refill Your Travel Toothpaste Bottles with a DIY Adapter

Refill Your Travel Toothpaste Bottles with a DIY AdapterTravel-sized toiletries are often more expensive relative to their normal-sized counterparts. Reader ungullible shares a trick for refilling your travel-sized toothpaste bottles.

When we noted that children-sized toothpaste was TSA-compatible, ungullible shared an even cheaper solution: buy one travel-sized bottle and refill it.

I took two flip-top toothpaste lids, cut off the lids, and glued the top openings together to create a refill adapter. So now when my travel sized toothpaste tube gets empty, I use my adapter to connect the travel tube to my full-sized tube, squeeze, and refill.

We couldn't get ungullible to respond with a picture, but it's pretty easy to see what this would look like: two flip-top lids detached from their tubes and glued together at the "mouth." With some finagling, you could probably refill any toothpaste tube without an "adapter," but this trick would certainly make the process easier.

DIY Adapter Refills Your Travel Toothpaste Bottles

Every week, we receive tons of reader tips, often in response to tips we've posted. Our Tip of the Week showcases our favorite tip from you that improves upon something else we've shared, shows us another way to do something, or otherwise deserves more attention than our regular tips roundups. Curiosity spends holidays in Yellowknife Bay, immortalized on special Foursquare badge

Curiosity spends holidays in Yellowknife Bay, gets on special Foursquare badge

While many of us were opening presents and having our fill of mulled cider, NASA's trusty Curiosity rover was busy at work capturing panoramic views of Yellowknife Bay, a shallow area of unusual terrain on the Red planet. Jokingly dubbed "Grandma's house" by the crew, the rover spent over 11 Martian days there so that handlers could take some time off for the holidays. When they get back, the space vehicle will hopefully have provided enough data to pinpoint a potential drilling area so it can drill, collect and analyze rock samples using onboard tools -- a feat never-before attempted on Mars.

The Curiosity rover has, however, checked in on Foursquare on Mars, which is a feat no one else is likely to attempt. In continued collaboration with the social media platform, NASA is now providing a Curiosity Explorer badge to anyone who checks in to a NASA visitor center or a venue categorized as a science museum or planetarium. Badge recipients will get this message: "Get out your rock-vaporizing laser! You've explored your scientific curiosities just like NASA's Curiosity rover on Mars. Stay curious and keep exploring. You never know what you'll find." No idea if you'll get a free "scoop" of space ice cream or a hand in the next Mars mission along with it, but we're behind anything that boosts the public's interest in space.

(AP) ? Former President George H.W. Bush's condition continued to improve Saturday, prompting doctors to move him out of intensive care, a spokesman said.

"President Bush's condition has improved, so he has been moved today from the intensive care unit to a regular patient room at The Methodist Hospital to continue his recovery," family spokesman Jim McGrath said Saturday. "The Bushes thank everyone for their prayers and good wishes."

Bush was hospitalized Nov. 23 for treatment of a bronchitis-related cough. He was moved to intensive care at the Houston hospital on Dec. 23 after he developed a fever.

On Friday, McGrath said Bush had improved since arriving in the ICU. He said he was alert and in good spirits and was even doing some singing.

McGrath said Saturday morning that future updates on Bush's condition would be made as warranted.

Bush, the 41st president, is the country's oldest living former president by a few months.

Finding Good Quality Commercial Pest Control - ArticlesWide.com

Every pest, whether it is an animal or an insect, will come into human territory at some point. But, when this territory includes your home, it is no longer acceptable to us. Pests get into our homes because somewhere they have discovered a place for shelter, water and of course food.

Pests like our homes for the same reasons we do, they tend to be cooler during hot summer days and warmer during cooler winter months. Animals and insects are vulnerable to these temperature changes too. In the wild they manage for themselves. But if they spot a leaky pipe and a gap in a garbage bag one day, they may want to stick around. If they discover a hiding place underneath your porch, then they may very well decide to take up residence.

There are steps you can take to help prevent pest infestations, but when they arent enough you need to turn to professionals who know how to find pests and clear them out.

Making Your Home Unfit for Pests

Once you know what animals and insects need in order to survive in or around your home, you need to make sure you remove these enticements so they will leave or stay away entirely.

- Remove any food sources. This means thoroughly cleaning up spills and messes in the kitchen and dining room area so pests have nothing to sneak into at night. Make sure lids are on tightly and, if necessary, transfer certain foods into airtight jars, such as flour and sugar. Make certain that trash bags are inside of a secure trash bin that animals cant get into.

- Clear away debris from your home. This can include firewood stacked against the side of your house to too much mulch piled in certain areas. Making these areas drier and more sunlit can help remove moisture and hiding places for animals.

- Find any cracks or openings and seal them. Creatures can sneak in through holes in walls or near floor level, cracks, vent openings, or pipes. They may find a home in some of these in-between places too, which can be hard for a human to reach to get them out.

- Stopper up water sources. Does your water heater drip? Do you have any leaking pipes? Any standing water near your home? All of these can encourage pests to gather and multiply. Taking them out of the equation forces insects and animals to seek a water source elsewhere.

Still Having Problems?

When you have tried everything and you still find yourself with an infestation or pack of raccoons living under your porch, then its time to call in the professionals. They can offer you additional tips on how to keep your home pest free, as well as do an assessment of the current situation. Once they know what they are dealing with they can appraise you of all the different routes they may be interested in taking in order to remove the pests from your home.

You may want to seriously consider an environmentally responsible pest control company for your West Palm Beach home. That means they use green products that are safe for the environment and for you. Eco-friendly practices are also incorporated into their routines so that the job is done safely and thoroughly.

Credit Card Tips For The Concerned Consumer - Finance

Many people have benefited from the proper use of bank cards. Having a credit card provides increased financial freedom. That said, it is critical to select a credit card carefully and to use it with care. This article has some effective advice for helping people to do that.

Credit Card

When selecting a credit card to obtain cash or air miles rewards, be sure that you understand all the ins and outs of the reward program prior to agreeing to the terms of the credit card. Be sure you know if there is some period of time where you need to get a reward and be sure you?re using them prior to them expiring.

You surely wish to steer clear of late charges as well as over limit fees. The fees are both high, and not only do they cost your wallet, but they also affect your credit score negatively. Monitor things closely, and never exceed your personal limit.

Ask for reduced fees and interest rates if you ever miss a particular payment or if you pay it late. If you miss a payment or pay your bill late, credit card providers will usually increase your APR interest rates and charge you additional fees. If this is a one-time occurrence, call the credit card, and a credit card representative will often be willing to eliminate the fee.

Make sure to write down all of the details for each of your cards, including the numbers and contact information for the company. Hide that data in a secure place. That way, if your wallet or purse is stolen, you will easily be able to contact each company to report it. It is very important to report any lost card as quickly as possible, so you aren?t held responsible for paying for any fraudulent charges that might show up on your card.

Remember to keep only essential charge cards in your wallet. While it may be tempting to stuff all of your five or six cards into your wallet, stop and select the cards you actually use on a regular basis. Such cards may be a general purpose card and a gasoline card. Keep these cards in your wallet or purse, and find a safe place at home to store the rest for emergencies.

Do not get credit cards the minute that you are old enough to get them. Although this might be what most people do, you might need a few months to understand the basics of the credit industry before you use charge cards. See how adult life is before you decide to get your very first credit card.

Credit Card

It is important to ascertain whether the due date listed for credit card payment is the suggested due date or the actual date when payment is due. A lot of credit card companies now post suggested due dates along with actual due dates. If your issuer uses suggested due dates, it is smart to make sure you know the real due date, should you require a few extra days to get your payment together.

Know that some charges, like restaurant and grocery charges, take longer to appear on your statement than others. If you think you owe less than you really do, you can end up overspending and even going over your credit card limit.

If you incur a late fee, call your credit card issuer and ask them to remove it. If you usually send payment in a timely manner, the company will likely waive the fee to keep you as a good customer.

Take a look at the fine print. Make sure you understand what you are getting involved in, even if it is a pre-approved card or a company offering help with getting a card. Find out the exact interest rate and the time that rate is in effect for your card. Also, make sure to research any associate grace periods and/or fees.

Charge Cards

There are numerous advantages to using charge cards, from the increased amount of spending options to the relief they can provide in an emergency situation. Along with the clear advantages charge cards offer, there are dangers to avoid. Used carelessly, bank cards can cause financial ruin. The tips above have shown you valuable information on how you can make smarter credit decisions and enhance your life by avoiding credit problems.

You can clearly see that better information about business news can make the process a whole lot easier. With luck, the ideas and knowledge presented here are going to prove beneficial to you. Using these tips in your life is sure to help you.

Deal reached to avert U.S. port strike for now

(Reuters) - A union representing dockworkers on the U.S. East Coast and an alliance of shippers have reached a labor agreement that will avert a strike that threatened to wreak havoc on the United States' economy.

The International Longshoremen's Association (ILA), which represents 14,500 workers at 15 container ports in the eastern United States, and the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX) of shippers, terminal operators and port authorities, have agreed to extend their current contract by 30 days to finalize details, the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service said in a statement on Friday.

Both sides have agreed "in principle" on the contentious issue of royalty payments for shipping containers, payments to ILA workers based on the tons of container cargo that move through a port.

The statement on Friday was light on details of the actual agreement, and the USMX declined to comment further.

The new contract does not eliminate the royalty payments, according to Benny Holland, an executive vice president for the ILA.

"The royalty will stay intact. We have worked out a formula for it," he said in an interview.

Established in 1960, the royalty payments to ILA workers are based on the tons of container cargo that move through a port. That tonnage has risen from 50 million tons in 1996 to 110 million last year, according to the alliance. Total payments last year were $211 million, according to the USMX, or an average of $15,500 per worker.

The original idea of the royalty payments was to protect longshoremen from wage losses expected as a result of "containerization," in which more and more goods are packed in the now-familiar 20- and 40-foot long boxes. Those take less manpower to off-load than the less-standardized containers they replaced.

Both sides also fought over the guaranteed eight-hour workday in the current contract and the seven-man "lashing gang." Lashing crews, or gangs, secure the cargo containers to the vessel using metal lashing rods to keep them from moving while the vessel is at sea. The maritime alliance wanted to eliminate each.

The agreement comes as union forces felt emboldened by recent victories by other unions across the United States. At the same time, shipping companies and port operators have been using more automation, and have seen profits shrink.
