Home improvement grants: Act Fast to Get Your Free Home ...

You don't have to spend hard earned money to repair or remodel your home while there is free government money available to finance those projects for you. Home improvement grants are awarded to most fortunate American taxpayers who apply for them, and none of the recipients ever have to pay them back.

Billions of dollars in free grant money for repair projects is awarded yearly to US citizens, and you may be eligible to qualify for a great deal of that money if you apply for home improvement grants now.

It won't be long before millions of more taxpayers become aware of these magnificent opportunities and the waiting periods will surely be extending due to overwhelming response. One would be advised to locate their local grant award agency to assure a prompt review of their government grant application.

After you have properly completed the entire grant writing and application process, if you are approved for this funding, which thousands are, you may be quickly able to achieve more than enough free government money to repair, remodel and maintain your current home or property. And since government home improvement grants are custom designed specific to individual needs, you can perform and number of projects large or small.

The greatest part about home grants is that there are no credit checks required and you never pay the money back...

Remarkably, there is absolutely no form of credit history report, income level, or obligation to repay government home improvement grants, nor any limits to how many one may apply for or receive. It is completely possible to acquire several free grants to embark upon countless remodeling projects, and never pay a cent out of pocket. Imagine what that can do for your property value and home equity?

You could actually profit and make significant money by using home improvement grants to remodel and improve your home. If you an American taxpaying homeowner, and over the age of eighteen, you may very likely qualify to receive this generous funding in a short amount of time if you act now.

Orphan Sunday is Nov. 4 | TFI Family Services, Inc.

TFI Family Services joins Phyllis Gilmore, secretary of the Kansas Department for Children and Families, in the promotion of adoption through Orphan Sunday.

A message from Secretary Gilmore:

Right now there are about 389 Kansas children awaiting a forever family. In social-work speak we say they?re without an ?adoptive resource,? meaning there?s no foster care parent or relative to adopt them. They are kids who need loving, attentive parents.

Regardless of how you characterize them, we at the Department for Children and Families think 389 children without a permanent home is 389 too many. We?d rather that number be zero. That is why we place such strong emphasis on National Adoption Month in November.

During National Adoption Month, Kansas families that already are committed to adoption across the state will take the last step in the process together, finalizing their adoptions alongside friends and relatives. Undoubtedly, there will be many joyous smiles and happy tears.

Adoption Month is also a chance for us to shine a spotlight on the beauty of adoption and ask others to step forward and grow their families. We want Kansans to examine their lives and their hearts and ask themselves if there?s room to provide a permanent, loving home for a child or children who have none.

That?s where you come in. We would like you to help us promote the adoption of children in Kansas. On Sunday, November 4, many churches across the state are having Orphan Sunday, dedicated to finding families for children in need of loving, permanent homes. What we?re asking is pretty simple. We?d like churches to devote a portion of their service to showing a one-minute video, and to talking about the importance of adoption.

Could you help us spread the word to the churches in your network about Orphan Sunday?

During the service, here are a few facts about adoption the churches can mention:

  • Adoption through the state is affordable. Instead of $30,000 as is often the case in private adoption, public adoption costs little or nothing. In addition, many children and sibling groups are eligible for adoption subsidies.
  • It is legally secure to adopt through the state.
  • Many older children can get free tuition at any state college or university.
  • There is a community of support for adoptive families in Kansas. Families who take the step towards adoption will not be alone.

We?d like churches to put the database of children who are eligible for adoption (www.adoptkskids.org) in their Sunday bulletin and on their website screens so parents who are interested in adoption can find out more and take the first step.

You can also show the video to the volunteers and workers in your organization, and help direct them to the adoptKSkids.org website.

We appreciate your help taking care of the orphans in our state. These children are so precious, and they deserve a warm, loving home. Let?s help them find one.

With sincerest gratitude,

Phyllis Gilmore

Financial Post: Cultural quotient test tells much about individual - triec

Dan Ovsey

Self assessment has become a mainstay of today?s business world. Walk into any progressive office and you?re bound to find employees intimately familiar with their attributes and shortcomings ? characteristics they often describe through colour-coded or alphabetical evaluations that represent specific communication styles, work preferences and core values.

As an inherently cynical individual, I lent little credence to such appraisals until an eerily accurate evaluation of my personal characteristics from a Myers Briggs test a few years ago forced me to set aside some of my doubts.

Paranormal Tours In Alton Illinois Part 2

Paranormal Tours In Alton Illinois Part 2

Mineral Springs Mall is one of the oldest and most historic buildings in Alton, Illinois. It was started as Mineral Springs Hotel by two German immigrants August and Herman Luer in 1909. Mineral Springs Hotel was completed on August 1, 1914. It was built with luxurious terrazzo floors, decorated cornices, marble staircases and artistic glass throughout the hotel. It was an immediate success and was even more popular after the mineral pool was opened in the basement.

The hotel was a popular meeting place for politicians, traveling salesmen, civic leaders and socialites. The pool attracted water polo clubs, people for swimming lessons and the claimed healing powers of the mineral water. The water was claimed to have healing powers for the sick and the noted Dr. Furlong of this period in time gave mineral baths and claimed they would heal colds, headaches and sore muscles. It has been reported that Mineral Springs Hotel attracted up to 30,000 visitors in one season.

With this many visitors in the early 1900?s it is surprising that there are not more paranormal activities in the Mineral Springs Mall. There are six known ghosts I have talked about in previous discussion; Pearl, Maria, Gus, Cassandra, William and one that does not have a name. The nameless ghost is known to be wearing a three piece suit or a tuxedo. He has been observed in the mineral pool where Cassandra has been known to be.

There was an art store using the adjoining room to the pool in the basement and one evening a worker heard noise in the pool area, when she went to investigate there was a figure of a man in a suit in the mineral pool. After this siting the store was moved immediately.

There have been others known to have been attracted to the mall, as the energy from visitors on the tours has caused wayfarers to come into the hotel. Most are just passing through and are just drawn by the extra activity and energy in the mall and do not stay. There have also been many orbs spotted on tours and Wayne, the main tour guide, usually has them swarm him when he enters the mineral pool, although I did not observe this on our tour. Some of the resident ghosts have also been known to follow tour visitors when they leave the mall. The guides had noted they then get a call and have to explain to the visitor how to make them return to the mall.

The Mineral Springs Mall is a very interesting place. I did not feel uncomfortable in this building and actually felt more at ease. Maybe because I knew I was in the presence of lost souls looking for help.

Who knows how many more spiritual residents the Mineral Springs Hotel will attract in the next hundred years?

Nature slams campaigns into real world

Sandy strengthened before dawn and is on a predicted path toward Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York ? putting it on a collision course with two other weather systems that would create a superstorm. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

(AP) ? Suddenly, after drifting through months of confusing finger-pointing and iffy economic theory, the presidential candidates are getting walloped by an all-too-tangible October surprise. Superstorm Sandy is a real-world, gut-level test.

The force of nature threw cold water on the campaign bickering just as President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney were charging into a final week of man-made rancor.

"It's sort of like Mother Nature is intervening and calling a timeout," said historian and presidential biographer Douglas Brinkley.

Obama can't afford to be caught taking his eyes off an unfolding crisis. Romney needs to avoid appearing callous about the lives lost and homes flooded while campaigning; he decided to go on with events but dialed down the politics Tuesday.

Seven years after Hurricane Katrina, neither candidate wants to talk about the political implications of the giant storm that lurched up the East Coast and left millions without power.

But their campaigns have to think about it. All presidential teams sweat about the potential for an October surprise ? a late-in-the race event or disclosure that can turn the race upside down. And there's never been one quite like this.

Obama canceled his campaign appearances from Monday at least through Wednesday but is staying in the public eye as commander of federal relief efforts. He visited the American Red Cross headquarters on Tuesday and travels to New Jersey on Wednesday to view damage and comfort people recovering from the storm.

Romney wavered in his strategy. First the campaign said he would skip a Kettering, Ohio, rally Tuesday out of sympathy for the storm victims. Then Romney decided to do the event but recast it as a storm-relief effort, shorn of the usual campaign speech.

"It's part of the American spirit, the American way, to give to people in need," Romney told supporters in Kettering before they lined up to hand him bags of canned food for storm victims.

Romney planned three campaign events in Florida on Wednesday.

The storm's political impact is still unknown. At the very least, the aftermath in New York City and elsewhere will dominate the news and distract a nation of voters during the crucial handful of days that remain before Nov. 6.

More concrete effects on Election Day are yet to be tallied: how many early voting days lost, how many voters who don't make it to the polls because of power outages, damaged homes or cleanup duties, whether any polling places or election equipment are damaged. Parts of four states seen as pivotal to this election were hit ? North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio and New Hampshire.

Though rapid-fire campaign ads continue apace, Brinkley, a Rice University professor, predicted that the presidential race's less-strident tone will continue through its remaining week, even after campaign schedules return to full strength.

"When the nation's largest city and even its capital are endangered, when so many people are in peril and face deprivation," Brinkley said Monday, "it's hard to get back to arguing over taxes."

For Obama, the federal response to the natural disaster could make or break his bid for a second term. Romney risks losing momentum in his push to move ahead in the few tight state races expected to decide the election.

"It stops the campaign more or less dead in its tracks," said Republican pollster and strategist Mike McKenna, who doesn't work for the Romney campaign. "A pause always helps the guys on defense. It helps the Obama guys catch their breath a little bit and think about what to do next."

McKenna says Romney shouldn't take much time off and should instead focus on key states outside the storm zone.

"If I were Romney, I'd be in Colorado and Michigan and Wisconsin," McKenna said. "Start off with a prayer for the people in New York and New Jersey, definitely do that, but don't stop attacking. Try to keep your momentum through this."

For Obama, missing a few days of active campaigning for vital presidential duties may be a good trade, politically speaking.

Lingering anger about the previous president's performance when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans provides a backdrop that will benefit Obama if his administration does a solid job, said Kathleen Hall Jamieson, director of the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Public Policy Center.

"You gain much more as a president being contrasted with George W. Bush and Hurricane Katrina than you do giving a speech in some battleground state and getting on the evening news as a campaigner," Jamieson said.

She said a natural disaster gives a sitting president "unlimited access to the media to say things the public wants and needs to hear in a fashion that reinforces that he is president."

The 2008 election also was hit by a fall surprise, albeit one of human creation? the plummeting stock market and near collapse of the nation's financial sector that September. Many voters blamed that on the Republicans in power, and it helped Obama capture the presidency.

This time, neither candidate can be accused of failing to prevent the weather. But Obama's reputation will suffer if the federal government's response is feeble or botched.

With Election Day a week away, there may be little time to make such assessments, however, and a risk of appearing to politicize tragedy if Romney speaks up too soon ? a complaint that Democrats lodged against him when a U.S. Consulate in Libya was attacked.

"Criticism could boomerang if it appears to be ginned up to win votes in the election as opposed to genuine concern that people were not protected or people were not helped," said Mitchell McKinney, a professor of political communication at the University of Missouri.

For the former Massachusetts governor, with no political office as a platform, finding a strong, positive role in the storm response is difficult. Romney used a campaign event Monday at a high school gym in Avon Lake, Ohio, to make a plea for donations to the Red Cross. His campaign offices in storm-hit areas were collecting emergency supplies.

Even as Obama canceled an appearance in Florida on Monday and rushed back to Washington to oversee the storm response, first lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden kept campaigning.

"In times of crisis, we all pull together as one American family," Mrs. Obama told supporters at a campaign event in Iowa City, Iowa, before launching into an upbeat summation of her husband's accomplishments and goals.

The president and Romney also spoke of Americans helping each other.

"President Obama is doing the right thing. Romney, too," said Democratic Party strategist Donna Brazile. "Most Americans know what the closing arguments are by now. Let's focus on taking care of each other."

UPDATE 1-Singapore to see slow growth, high inflation in 2013 - c.bank

(Adds graphics)

SINGAPORE, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Singapore is likely to see

another year of lacklustre economic growth and elevated

inflation in 2013 as exports remain weak and rising rents and

car prices continue to push up the cost of living, its central

bank said on Tuesday.

But the job market will remain tight and "resident wage

growth could rise from 2-3 percent in 2012 to above 3 percent in

2013 even if overall economic growth remains sluggish," the

Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said in its half-yearly

macroeconomic review.

Singapore's gross domestic product growth "is likely to be

positive though below-trend next year", while "CPI-All items

inflation could rise to 4.5 percent temporarily in Q4 2012 and

Q1 2013 from 4.2 percent in Q3" before moderating to around 3.5

percent in the fourth quarter of next year, MAS said.

Wealthy Singapore, a major Asian business and financial

centre, has been making it harder for firms to recruit low-cost

workers from abroad following a backlash from citizens concerned

about overcrowding on trains and buses as well as increased

competition for jobs, schools and housing.

During parliamentary elections last year, Prime Minister Lee

Hsien Loong's long-ruling People's Action Party (PAP) saw its

share of the popular vote fall to a record low of 60 percent and

two ministers were voted out of office.

Singapore authorities expect GDP growth this year to come in

between 1.5 and 2.5 percent, down from 4.9 percent last year and

below what they believe is the economy's trend growth of 3-5

percent.

Inflation, meanwhile, is likely to slightly exceed the

government's most recent forecast of 4.0 to 4.5 percent for

2012, which is already much higher than the 2.5 to 3.5 percent

outlook it gave at the start of the year.

Measures to control the number of cars in the city-state via

certificates of entitlement (COEs) that motorists need before

buying a new vehicle have been one of the main contributors to

inflation.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch, in a report last week,

estimated the government's shift away from its once liberal

foreign labour policy will shave about 1.3 percentage points off

2012 GDP growth, which averaged 1.7 percent year-on-year in the

first nine months.

"Stricter immigration and foreign worker policies is

intended to improve the quality of life for citizens, with less

congestion and competition for housing, and a more protected job

market. But there are also costs, with lower potential growth, a

less dynamic job market, and higher wage-cost inflation," said

Merrill's Southeast Asia economist Chua Hak Bin.

DOMESTIC BOOST

MAS said that while external-oriented sectors such as

manufacturing have suffered from the weakness in Europe and the

slowdown in China, domestic sectors remained buoyant due to the

large number of ongoing projects.

"The more optimistic outlook for domestic-oriented

activities is partly a result of supply-side expansions that are

needed to accommodate a larger population base in Singapore,"

the central bank said.

Projects that Singapore has embarked on include an expanded

public housing programme to meet the surge in demand,

construction of a new airport terminal, new extensions to the

subway network as well as new community hospitals and nursing

homes to cater to a rapidly ageing population.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Straits Times newspaper said a spike

in construction costs had contributed to a more than 70 percent

rise in the estimated cost of building the new Downtown subway

line to S$20.7 billion ($16.95 billion) from an original

estimate of S$12 billion.

MAS described the slowdown that Singapore is currently

facing as a "slow drag", which differed from previous recessions

when the economy experienced a "sharp and decisive" downturn.

"In previous recessions, the external-oriented industries

tended to collapse following a sharp pullback in external

demand. This time round, these industries saw only a gradual

slowing. As a result, the negative spillovers on the cyclically

sensitive domestic activities have been limited."

Singapore's population has jumped over the past decade as a

surge in the number of foreigners more than compensated for a

declining birth rate that is one of the lowest in the world.

The island, which is now more densely populated than Hong

Kong, had a population of 5.3 million last year compared with

4.0 million in 2000. Citizens now account for around 62 percent

of the population, down from around three-quarters at the turn

of the century.

"Since the middle of the last decade, Singapore's resident

population has increased by about 3.1 percent annually, faster

than the post-independence average growth rate of 2.2 percent,"

MAS said.

Family Displaced After Tree Crashes Through Edgewood House in ...

Update, Oct. 30, 3:44 p.m.

Jennifer Gero, owner of Rootz hair salon in Collinsville, is the owner of 5 Edgewood where a large pine tree fell on the house.

The tree has been removed from the house and a tarp is covering the corner of the house that a tree crashed through on Monday night during Hurricane Sandy.

She met with a representative from Traveler's Insurance Tuesday afternoon to assess the damage Tuesday afternoon.

More information will be provided when it becomes available.

Original Story

A mother and her son had to stay at a neighbor's house Monday night after a large pine tree crashed through the side of their Edgewood home during Hurricane Sandy.

There were no injuries, according to Avon Fire Chief Michael Trick.

"That house got some severe damage," Trick said.

The Avon Volunteer Fire Department responded to make sure the two occupants of the house were safe and to turn off the power on the structure as a precaution.

The tree is still there at this time because tree removal from houses is out of the fire department's purview, according to Trick.

Firefighters responded to another house simultaneously where a tree fell on the roof. There was minor damage to the second house and information on the location has not been released at this time.

The fire department also responded to calls regarding sparking wires as limbs fell on the power lines and a couple of motor vehicle accidents Monday.

Firefly glow lights up better LEDs

Hal Hodson, technology reporter

144758913.jpg

LEDs of the future may owe their shine to one of nature's brightest sparks, the firefly, which uses its bioluminescence to attract a mate.

Many insects have evolved light-bending biological features. The figeater beetle's bright green iridescence is achieved by selectively reflecting light, and moths' eyes contain antire?ective structures which boost light collection to let them go about their nocturnal lives. Like firefly bioluminescence, these features rely on tiny biological structures that selectively shift light either according to its colour or its polarisation. For example, if the wavelength of the incoming light matches size of the structures, it is reflected at odd angles, altering the perceived colour. The effect is similar to that of a diffraction grating or of polarised sunglasses.

Fireflies use this property to snag a mate: the brighter a firefly shines, the better its chances of attracting romantic attention. The light-bending nanostructures - known as lanterns, located on the outer surface of their light emitting organs - help send light into the environment efficiently by reducing the optical impedance between the air and lantern. This lets the insects maximise their light output while minimising their energy output. In all animals that rely on bioluminescence, efficient versions of these nanostructures have been selected for over hundreds of millions of years.

But researchers at the Biophotonics Lab of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology found another use for them: a better LED lightbulb.

Led by Ki-Hun Jeong, the team measured the dimensions of the firefly nanostructures with an electron microscope, then built replica structures onto the surface of an LED lens. Their new LED lens transmitted 3 per cent?more light than a traditional smooth lens, a small gain, but potentially significant in squeezing even more efficiency out of LED bulbs that are already dramatically more efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs.

Sandy hits NY subway system hard

Superstorm Sandy flooded parts of the New York City subway system, rail yards and bus depots, creating what officials are calling the biggest disaster of its 108 years in existence.

"The New York City subway system?has never faced a disaster as devastating as what we experienced last night," MTA Chairman Joe Lhota said in a statement. "Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on our entire transportation system, in every borough and county of the region."

In addition to flooding in a handful of tunnels and bus garages, Lhota said a portion of the Hudson line on the Metro-North Railroad had lost power.

"We are assessing the extent of the damage and beginning the process of recovery," he said. A time frame for when one of the world's largest public transportation networks would be back up and running was not yet available.

Hurricane Sandy: Full Coverage

The subway system, which averaged 5.2 million weekly riders last year, was preemptively shut down Sunday evening.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he hoped the closure would keep New York-area residents from being "up and about."

"[Trains are] not intended to be submerged," he said. "And we want people to stay at home."

The city is planning on an aggressive bus strategy during subway repairs. It may include limiting or shutting lanes for private vehicles in order to help expedite bus traffic.

Mass transit was also preemptively shut down in Boston, Philadelphia and Washington D.C.

(AP) ? Crista Laughlin was a mile high and dry, but Superstorm Sandy still kept the 40-year-old Obama campaign volunteer from walking precincts or working the phones.

Instead, she was huddled inside her suburban Denver home, watching storm coverage on television and thinking about her grandson in Norfolk, Va., in the hurricane's path. "I'm actually with the president on this one: The election will take care of itself in a week. What's on our minds is the people," said Laughlin, a 40-year-old volunteer in Aurora, Colo.

The presidential election was, well, rained out Monday ? from the media centers and storm-battered battleground states of the Atlantic coast to the arid, high plains suburbia of Colorado. Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan canceled three Colorado appearances scheduled for Tuesday as the Romney's campaign announced it was suspending political events featuring the top of its ticket. Meanwhile, President Barack Obama scrapped his own Tuesday appearances ? including one in Colorado ? and fled a Monday morning rally in Florida to make it back to the White House before the storm.

The president's campaign emailed supporters urging them to donate to charities that help storm victims. In Romney campaign offices, volunteers cut into their phone-banking and door-knocking time to stockpile canned goods to send to the disaster zone. The storm gave Obama a chance to appear presidential during a national emergency, and challenger Mitt Romney a potential opening should the federal government botch the response.

It also had a political impact thousands of miles away, giving people like Roger Draeger a break.

The 75-year-old funeral driver from Fort Atkinson, Wis., is a Romney supporter, but he was glad both candidates suspended their campaigns Monday. It was a blessed reprieve from the nonstop political debate that has dominated Wisconsin since Gov. Scott Walker signed a bill limiting collective bargaining for state workers last year, triggering a long series of recall elections.

Still, like other residents of this poll-obsessed nation, Draegar quickly began to analyze the upsides and downsides for each candidate, saying both should be visible in the aftermath. Obama "really needs to show a lot of compassion for all those states and cities," he said.

It's a sign of how thoroughly the campaign has permeated swing-state life that Dan Guimond, 61, an economist in Denver, was partly getting his hurricane updates through the political-junkie website Real Clear Politics and The New York Times blog FiveThirtyEight. Guimond is worried about his parents, who live in Massachusetts, but not worried about how the storm could affect the race. "Obama canceled his, what, 26th trip to Colorado? Big deal," he said.

A modicum of politics still continues here. Former President Bill Clinton and Jill Biden, the vice president's wife, were still slated to campaign in Colorado on Tuesday, and the Romney campaign sent the candidate's son Craig to an early vote event Monday afternoon. The president, notably, is scheduled to return to Colorado Thursday. Still, some of his supporters said they may not be able to do as much for him.

Romney's wife, Ann, will help gather donations at campaign offices in Wisconsin and Iowa Tuesday before a Des Moines, Iowa, rally. The Romney campaign also announced Ryan will drop by a donation drive in Wisconsin.

Denver Pastor Leon Emerson, head of the Greater Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance, spent the weekend rallying voters for Obama with actor Laurence Fishburne. But he expects Sunday talks at church to focus less on the upcoming election and more on the storm.

"I'll eventually talk about the election, but I may not put as much emphasis on it, depending how this hurricane turns out," Emerson said. "Politics is one thing, but you know what? We're going to keep our attention on helping mankind."

Emerson said his congregation is shifting focus, too.

"We had some plans today and tomorrow, going door to door. It's still going on, but not with the intensity we had, because people want to make sure their loved ones are OK," said Emerson, who has a niece in Hampton, Va.

Some weary swing state voters didn't think the political lull would mean much. "I'm sure the TV commercials aren't going to stop," said Mike Beauregard, a Republican-leaning Independent who owns a cooking utensil shop in Concord, NH.

Others were fixated on images of the storm but still saw the devastation through the prism of the election. In western Wisconsin, at the bustling student union at the University of Wisconsin in River Falls, a television tuned to cable news showed ominous images of the storm. History major Mike Engelhardt, 21, said Obama had the most on the line.

"If he bungles the beginning of the cleanup, that will move a lot of votes to Romney," Engelhardt predicted.

One place the storm may have an impact is North Carolina, where Democrats are hoping new voters who cast their ballots early will overcome the GOP's traditional Election Day advantage at the polls. Rain from the storm shuttered some early voting locations Sunday, and election officials were concerned that heavy snow in the western mountains could make it even harder to get to polling places early.

"The weather could chill participation," state election executive director Gary Bartlett said.

Democrats are counting on running up an edge in early votes in other swing states as well ? ones that lie outside the storm's path but were still on the minds of Romney supporters in sunny Davenport, Iowa, where the Republican candidate made a final Monday afternoon appearance.

Tim Vath of Dubuque said he didn't think the storm would fundamentally disrupt the election. But he did worry that any bad weather now might increase the magnitude of any early-voting advantage Democrats might have.

"Perhaps it could freeze that advantage in place. I doubt it would determine the outcome in those states," said Vath. "At least, I hope not."

As Sandy rumbled past the tiny Chesapeake Bay hamlet of North, Va., William Sullivan, 76, swung by the town's main building, which holds the post office, bait shop and convenience store. Sullivan trashed two-thirds the mail stuffing his post office box, mainly glossy political brochures from both sides.

"Makes me sick to my stomach thinking of the millions of dollars these characters have spent to get elected," Sullivan said before heading back out into the rain. He doubted the dramatics surrounding the storm would change the minds of his rural neighbors. "People have their minds made up," he said.

In downtown Denver, it was sunny and in the 60s as Jeremy LeVal, a Romney supporter, waited at a bus stop. He confessed he has paid limited attention to both the campaign and the storm. He knew the hurricane was bearing down on the Northeast and hoped there was no major damage, but doubted the brief suspension of the presidential contest would matter.

"If people haven't decided at this point," LeVal said, "it probably won't make a difference."

Romney urges Ohio supporters to persuade Democrats

ABC News' Shushannah Walshe and Emily Friedman Report:

MARION, Ohio-Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan wrapped up a three-stop bus tour of the Northwestern part of this critical state, striking a bipartisan tone with the top of the ticket urging the crowd to talk to their friends who may have cast a ballot for a Democrat in the past.

"Your friends may have voted last time, perhaps in the Democratic primary, they may have voted for who knows? They may have voted for Hillary Clinton or they may have voted for Barack Obama, they may have voted for then-candidate Obama in the final election," Romney, standing next to his running mate, told the crowd of about 5,000.

Romney continued, telling supporters in this reliably red county which John McCain won four years ago by ten points, he needed their help convincing those who may still be undecided.

"But I need you to convince them to vote for Paul Ryan and me and that's not always easy but you can ask them this question: you can say do you think everything's going just fine?," Romney asked, before telling the audience how to pitch his ticket to their friends.

"You're gonna say, 'Do you think should just go on like they're going for the last four years? And if they have the same answer you just had then you have the number one argument why for why they should vote for us. Because our campaign is about fundamental change, our campaign is about real change, taking a course correction in this country," Romney said.

President Obama and Mitt Romney Battle for OhioABC News' David Muir examines what the candidates need to do to win the contested state.

?

Romney continued the theme saying under a Romney-Ryan administration he would work across the aisle, something his running mate also likes to mention when he's on the stump.

"We're going to have to do something that has been done in the past in this country and that is we're going to have to reach across the aisle we're going to have to find good Democrats, by the way Democrats love America too, we've got to reach across the aisle find ways to bring in people from the other party work together, collaborate, meet regularly and fight for the American people and we will!," Romney said.

He added that working with Democrats is one of the reasons he selected Ryan as his running mate, saying "he 's worked with people across the aisle and has their respect."

Of course, Democrats fiercely dispute this version of history and the Obama campaign was quick to point that out Sunday saying, "The American people can't trust a word Mitt Romney says, especially when he claims he'd work across the aisle as president."

"As Governor, he refused to work with Democrats in the legislature," Obama campaign spokesperson Danny Kanner said in a statement. "And throughout this campaign, he's refused to stand up to the most extreme voices in his own party? The middle class deserves a president they can trust and Mitt Romney just doesn't pass that test."

At their first stop today in Celina, Ryan noted that the campaign is finally in the single digits, "nine more days, we will debating this for nine more days and then on November the 6th you decide."

"Our obligation to you is to give you, our fellow citizens, a very clear choice, that's what we are offering, and so November 6th is the day but I'd like to ask you to think about November 7th for a moment. Think about what that morning on Wednesday November the 7th will be like, when we wake up and we turn on the TV, we can either have four more years of the same that are just like the last four years or we can wake up and we can see that we just elected a leader to get our country back on the right track," Ryan said.

At the final stop in Marion, he was interrupted twice in his brief introduction of his running mate with chants of "Nine more days!" from the boisterous crowd.

And at their second stop in Findlay this afternoon, Ryan noted the political reality of this crucial state: "As goes Ohio, so goes America."

No Republican has got to the White House without taking Ohio.

Ryan has spent two days campaigning in the Buckeye state covering 400 miles on what was originally supposed to be a solo bus tour, but due to Hurricane Sandy Romney re-routed his schedule from Virginia to Ohio.

The presidential race has come down to just a few battleground states, but none are more important than Ohio, hence the aggressive air and ground wars by both sides as the race comes to a close. Recent polls have Obama ahead, but still show a major tightening since before the presidential debates. A CNN/ORC poll released last week shows the president with 50 percent and Romney with 46 percent here. The latest ABC News/Washington Post national tracking poll has the race at a dead heat with Romney at 49 percent and Obama at 48 percent.

Romney continues campaigning here Monday with a stop in Avon Lake, just west of Cleveland.

Owning a home is a very popular goal for many Americans. It is a goal that plenty of Americans try to accomplish everyday. You probably want to buy a house also. However, just like others, you do not have the cash to buy a new home. The average person has to get a home loan in order to purchase a home. There are many different home loans available to choose from. This article will go over some of the home mortgages that you can choose and their various attributes.

Fixed Rate Mortgage

The most well known kind of loan comes with a fixed rate loan. The reason that so many people like this type of loan is because it is so stable. The monthly amount will not adjust unless you authorize adjustments to the loan. A fixed rate mortgage has a rate of interest that is locked in over the course of the loan. The origination rate is the same interest rate that the loan will honor over the life of the loan.

The most preferred loan duration is 30 years. But, there are those who want a loan for 15 years too. So you have the chance to apply for either a 15 or 30 year loan with a mortgage that has a fixed rate. This is why a lot of people like fixed rate mortgages. You can easily budget your money for years to come. The monthly payment is always known. You don?t have to stress out about the interest rate changing.

Federal Housing Administration Loans

FHA loans were created for people who are first time buyers or people who do not have much money to put on a new home purchase. Not only are first time home buyers usually approved for these loans, but they only have to come up with a three percent down payment. This is due to the fact these loans are backed by the FHA. All in all, a government backed loan is easier to get than other types of fixed mortgages.

VA Loan

A VA mortgage is a different kind of fixed rate loan that is backed by the FHA. There are basically two kinds of home buyers who will obtain this kind of loan. First, you must have a previous or current history of serving in the military. The next type is a person who has to be a surviving spouse of a person who was in the military. There are plenty of times in which a person can get this type of VA loan and never have to put a down payment down.

Traditional Adjustable Rate Mortgage

Unlike fixed rate mortgages, adjustable rate mortgages are not that stable. The rate of interest for an ARM adjusts itself according to whatever the prevailing market rate is. Basically, your monthly payment will be influenced by the prevailing interest rate. Some adjustable rate loans have a limit on the number of interest changes that are done.

Do not forget that your monthly loan payment is the combined amount of principle and interest. Although the principle will stay the same each month, the interest portion will adjust according to the market rate. Even though most people do not prefer this specific feature when it comes to ARMS, but this kind of mortgage is still a good way to get more value or home for the money that you are dishing out. This is one of the key reasons that adjustable rate mortgages are so popular. But the life of the loan is generally for about 5 or 7 years at the most. The loan schedule has manageable payments at the beginning of the loan. But, the final payment is one huge lump sum amount. The homeowner can select to obtain a new loan or make this big payment.

Interest Only Mortgages

The loan requirements of an interest only loan mean that you only are required to make payments on the interest of the loan. After that specified amount of time, you will be responsible for paying the full monthly payments. It is the loan adjustments that make both balloon and ARM loans hard to pay in the very end.

Finally, these are some of the kinds of mortgages that people can opt for. Some will be harder to get than others. But they are there to help you achieve your dream of buying a new home.

If you are thinking about applying for a home loan you should read up as much as possible and Home Finance Assistance is the best place to start.
